Chapter 11: Designer Genes

My genetic testing analysis came back today…on December 25th of all days. It’s a freaking Christmas Miracle! 😉

This means Mayo Clinic will finally clear me for surgery. Tits Be Gone!

As for the lab findings: I tested negative for each cancer gene/mutation in the testing sequence. Meaning, my cancer isn’t hereditary. Nor do I carry cancer genes in my DNA, which is wonderful news for my Son and his future children. This does beg the question in my mind: if my cancer doesn’t have a genetic component, then what is causing it? I look to my lifestyle: I’m a non-smoker, I drink alcohol very sparingly, the hardest recreational drug I’ve ever tried is weed and that was long ago. My diet is fairly decent: no fast-food, no soda, very limited junk food. My weight is average. I don’t work-out, but I’m active. My lifestyle doesn’t seem conducive to cancer…so, maybe it’s my Autoimmune issues? Crohn’s Disease is an Autoimmune Disease which causes chronic inflammation, and inflammation is linked to cancer. Maybe Crohn’s is the connection? This is purely speculation at this point, but I will be discussing this theory with my Doctors. Nevertheless, I am relieved that Mayo Clinic finally has the information they need to clear me for surgery, and secure in knowing that cancer hasn’t pissed in my gene pool!

Happy Yule, everyone!
